Until 13th September you can take advantage of sale prices at a whole range of Book.ish associated Australian book stores. The ebooks in question are all written by Aussies and represent an amazing cross section of Australian literary work, and all at sale prices too.
What is Book.ish?
Well it is a sort of cloud system (web-based) in which you can buy all manner of ebooks, which you can then download to your computer, iPad or any other Android device and read at your leasure.. or conversely, read it online as your ebooks are kept in your own section of the cloud, known in Book.ish terms as your “satchel”.
This has advantages and disadvantages obviously. The first advantage is that all these ebooks are DRM free, so no problem moving them from device to device, or reading them on any mobile gadget you have that can connect to the internet. Further, owing to this system, the ebooks are totally format free, so no worries about whether it is e-Pub, Mobi or whatever normal ebook format.. this is obviously a good thing.
The main disadvantage is that you cant read them on a Kindle, a Sony or Nook ereader, in fact you can only read your ebooks on an iPad, Smart phone or a computer. I may be wrong on this, but that is my understanding of the system.
To use Book.ish you need to register with them and instal some software on your computer (or other devices) and then off you go.. that part is free and very simple, so no problems there. Oh, and it is free too, of course.
I have tried it out, and I have to say it works very well, navigating around your ebooks, and so on is well organised and simple, the ebooks look great and rather to my surprise I found I actually liked this method of ebook reading I have to admit.
The current sale is, as I said, a sale of ebooks written by a wide range of Australian writers, and whilst the prices are (typical for Australia) sadly on the high side, they are a damn sight cheaper than their paper counterparts, so you are looking at prices in the range of $8 to $10 per ebook as opposed to prices up to $40 for the paper equivalent.. So for Aussies, this is a real sale, and something to take advantage of I reckon.
Which stores?
Well, here is a short list of the main ones:
Readings Ebooks, Ebooks for Cooks, Fullers Bookshop, Mary Ryan’s, Avid Reader, Gleebooks and The Turning Page
What ebooks?
Well this should give you an idea of the range of ebooks that you can buy in this sale….
