Humble Bundle, who are best known for offering collections of video games for whatever price you feel like paying – Now that is a weird idea I feel – have just added ebooks to their range of goodies. Specifically they are offering a bundle of 6 science fiction ebooks to us as a sort of set, and the deal is we can pay whatever we feel like paying for them.

We can pay 1 cent for the set if we wish, or $1000 also, it is our call.

However, should we pay more than a sort of standard price for them, which is apparently $12.02 currently, you can add another two ebooks to the bundle.

This has to be a wonderful deal, as the ebooks in this bundle are actually really good examples of Sci-Fi at its best, and not merely another set of out of copyright ebooks, as is so often the case with free and cheap ebook collections, but ebooks that would cost you over $50 should you buy them from Amazon for example.

The ebooks that make up this bundle are the following:-

  • Pirate Cinema,
  • Pump Six and Other Stories,
  • Zoo City,
  • Invasion: The Secret World Chronicle,
  • Stranger Things Happen,
  • Magic for Beginners

And if you pay more than the $12.02, you can add Old Man’s War and the graphic novel Signal to Noise to your bundle at no extra cost.

All standard formats too.

All of these ebooks are supplied DRM free and in ePub, Mobi and PDF format, so no matter what ereader you have, you will be able to read them on your ereader… Good eh?

As an extra goodie, you can decide for yourself who actually gets the money you pay for this bundle, well, you are given some options to be more exact, you can decide to give all the money you pay to the authors, the guys at Humble bundle, or one of two charities – Child’s Play, or with the Electronic Frontier Foundation or the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America (though to be honest, I don’t really see the last as a real charity.. but then, I suppose elderly Sci-Fi writers need looking after?

But, you have to hurry, as this bundle is only available for the next two weeks from now (13th October 2012).

Seems a rather good idea to me, and one that should be encouraged.. so I am shortly going there to claim my bundle….

Here is a short video that explains it all for you in more detail.
