Small is beautiful we are told, well this Trekstor has taken that to heart and have produced the smallest dedicated ereader in the world, the Pyrus Mini, which with its 4.3 inch screen has to be the smallest device for ebook reading there is.
With the proportions of a Smart Phone, this little baby is actually a fully functional ereader in every way except it has no wifi or 3G connectivity, but you cant have everything, and to balance that lack it is a remarkably cheap gadget as well, costing as little as 49 Euros (depending on where you buy it).
Available in three colours (Black, blue and what they call pink) this ereader has every function one could wish for, 6 different font sizes, easy navigation around your ebook collection, a large enough internal memory for a huge number of ebooks, and of course it supports all the normal ebook formats, including those with Adobe DRM protection.
And unlike a Smart Phone, being a real ereader it uses almost no power, so your battery will happily keep you reading for weeks on end between charges as with any Kindle or Sony ereader.
So this is really a gadget for those of you who want to be able to carry an ereader around with you, but do not want to be bothered with even the relatively small size of a typical ereader, and who are happy to read their ebooks on a truly small page – which when you use the largest font size must equate to two words per screen!!
As it doesn’t have any wifi or 3G connectivity, you will need a computer to recharge and download your ebooks with, which you can do via the USB port the Mini has built into it. At first glance this seems a messy way of working, but in fact it is simple enough, and once you have got used to it, is as simple as you could wish… And it is the price you pay to get a really cheap ereader.
Anyhow, to give you an idea of how it works and looks, here is a short video review of it from Net Book Italia – It is not unreasonably in Italian, but they have taken the trouble to give it subtitles, so click on that button to understand what they are saying about this mini ereader.
So, now you know everything about it, and to finish things properly here are its specs.

Does the idea of an ereader as small as this baby appeal to you? or is it the last thing on earth you would want to use to read a book with? Do let us know your feelings on this one.

I think it would be quite handy as a second reader. I miss my 5″ Sony PRS 350. (Broken screen)
If available in Kiwi I will get one

I am sorry to hear about your Sony… Can you not get it fixed? But I agree with you, that mini-ereader could be a good second or spare ereader..

Nah. It would cost the earth. I got a 6″ PRS T1 when it broke.
I used the 5″ for ‘investigative purposes’
/removed the battery and sniffed around the guts of it.

Yes, it is a pity that getting these things repaired costs more then they are worth. Something wrong with this situation seems to me.
